Jerry Jacob

Jerry Jacob graduated from Miami University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Applied Science. A licensed pilot since 1964, one of his early milestones was completing his first solo flight to Bucyrus, Ohio from Canton, roughly a one-hundredth mile journey. In 1967, Jerry officially joined his brother, Jim Jacob, in the operations of Bender’s Tavern. As the third generation to lead the business, Jerry had already spent his early years immersed in the restaurant, shaping what would become a lifelong legacy. Jerry has been instrumental in shaping Bender’s culinary and hospitality identity. In 1971, he founded the restaurant’s wine club and education program, which eventually evolved into Bender’s renowned Wine Program—recognized with the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. He also introduced signature menu items including Jerry’s Mini Sundae, Melba Rounds with Horseradish, Jerry Fries, and the famous Bender’s Tomatoes. Throughout the decades, Jerry’s commitment to tradition and innovation stood firm, even during challenges such as the major fire in 1988 that closed Bender’s for nearly 10 months. Memorable moments in his life include meeting boxing legend Rocky Marciano during a visit to Boston in 1969, and winning the prestigious Blue Coat with his father, Wilbur Jacob, at Congress Lake Country Club in 1984. Jerry Jacob continues to be a steward of Bender’s Tavern, blending family heritage with hospitality excellence.
